The annual trade convention allows studios to show off their forthcoming attractions to cinema owners and press, with Nolan’s adaption of the epic poem by Homer being one of the most anticipated presentations. The director addressed the crowd before showing exclusive footage from the movie.

According to a description from Variety, it begins with Matt Damon’s Odysseus struggling to recall anything before the Trojan War he has been fighting, including whether he has a wife or son. The clip then cuts to the full Trojan Horse sequence, where Odysseus and his army hide inside a giant wooden horse in order to gain access to the city of Troy.

Those in attendance were taken aback by the presentation, and shared their reactions on X (formerly Twitter). “Nolan drops mind-blowing Trojan Horse footage for The Odyssey at CinemaCon” wrote outlet The Omen Media. “Damon leads an insane practical sequence you have to see. Epic is back.”

Journalist Erik Davis enthused: “We watched the sneak-attack sequence or the story of the horse, followed by a bunch of intense shots from the rest of the film. Looks incredible, you can’t take your eyes off it for a second.”

Content creator Hunter Bolding was optimistic for the film’s release, writing: “The footage they showed off from The Odyssey was quite simply, breathtaking. Equals the feeling of watching Dune: Part Three yesterday, there’s just no way this movie doesn’t rip.”

The Odyssey also stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Elliot Page. The film is released in cinemas on July 17.

Late last year, Nolan revealed the film was shot on real-life seas to “capture how hard” Odysseus’ journey would’ve been.
