Montreal is down a key player.

Canadiens defenceman Noah Dobson left Saturday night’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and will not return, the team announced.

Dobson exited after blocking a shot in the second period, and did not return to the ice. The Canadiens did not announce the nature or severity of the injury.

Dobson is in his first season with the Canadiens, having been traded from the New York Islanders in the off-season.

Dobson is Montreal’s second-highest scoring defenceman after Lane Hutson with 47 points this season (12 goals, 35 assists).

The Canadiens, who have clinched a playoff position, have two regular-season contests remaining after Saturday.
