Mike Weir is going to have a real shot to win his second career PGA Tour Champions event.
The Canadian is tied for the lead after two rounds of the 54-hole Pure Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.
Weir and New Zealand’s Steven Alker both are 10 under after two rounds. Weir shot a 4-under 68 on Saturday.
Stewart Cink and Vijay Singh are two shots back of the leaders.
The native of Brights Grove, Ont., was also tied for the lead after the opening round.
Weir’s best finish on the 50-and-over circuit this year is a tie for 11th at the Insperity Invitational.
Weir’s lone win on PGA Tour Champions came at the Insperity Invitational in 2021.
Weir, 55, is an eight-time winner on the PGA Tour, highlighted by his Masters triumph in 2003. He is the only Canadian man ever to win a major.
Alker, 54, was the top player on PGA Tour Champions in 2024 and 2022.
Cink won the Open Championship in 2009, while Singh has won three majors.
