Blessed are the Peacemakers: What does it mean?

Pope Leo XIV made headlines recently by echoing, on social media, the words of Jesus Christ from His famous Sermon on the Mount: “Blessed are the peacemakers.” Many on the right took this as a jab at President Trump over the Iran war, and perhaps it was. But I’d like for a moment to set aside politics and focus on the words themselves. Because we who consider ourselves followers of Christ take those words very seriously, or at least we should.
