Big Mistakes Season 2: Dan Levy Really Wants The Netflix Series To Carry On

Since arriving on Netflix earlier this month, Big Mistakes has drawn praise from critics, who’ve hailed it as a “cracking crime caper” thanks to its unique depiction of “the thrills and horrors of siblinghood”.

The comedy follows a brother and sister – Nicky and Morgan, played by Dan Levy and Taylor Ortega – who are forced to confront the world of organised crime, and their own relationship, after a chain of events involving a stolen necklace and their dead grandmother. 

Co-created with I Love LA’s Rachel Sennott, Big Mistakes is Dan’s first major creation since the mammoth success of the family comedy Schitt’s Creek, which wrapped six years ago.

And after binging all eight episodes, some viewers might be wondering what’s next for the show. Well, here’s what we know so far…

Will Big Mistakes return for season 2?

Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed whether or not it’s renewing Big Mistakes yet. 

However, if anything’s clear, it’s that Dan Levy isn’t ready to say goodbye to the series yet…

What has Big Mistakes creator Dan Levy said about a potential season 2?

Dan isn’t making any secret of the fact he wants Big Mistakes to return, telling People that he’s thinking in the long term.

“I know how the entire show ends,” he said, describing the “really, really special experience” of making it as well as his hopes “to tell this story for seasons and seasons and seasons”.

In a separate interview with TV Insider, the Emmy winner admitted: “I know exactly what I want to see in the second season of the show.”

“A lot of the show is written in my head at this point,” he elaborated. “All I know is that if we are given the opportunity to tell a second season, it’s going to be bigger and better, and I can’t wait to get back to the writer’s room because we have a big old story to tell.”

What do the Big Mistakes cast think about the idea of a season 2?

Co-lead Taylor Ortega has also made it clear she’s keen to return for more seasons of the show, echoing Dan’s comments about big plans for the story to continue.

“Dan has a big picture for the show, from beginning to end, so we would love to do the version of the show that he’s envisioned,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. 

“So I hope that whoever finds this show really loves it – and I hope that it’s many people who find it and love it.”

What could Big Mistakes season 2 be about?

Big Mistakes ended on the (spoiler warning!) cliffhanger that Morgan’s future mother-in-law is the ultimate crime boss, which leaves plenty of possibility for future series.

Keeping it snappy, Dan told Variety that more episodes would mean Nicky and Morgan falling deeper into the world of crime. 

“A season two would just be: There’s no way out now,” he said.
