It seemed impossible that there would ever be a proper sequel to The Shining, as Stanley Kubrick had made many changes to the original source material that angered Stephen King. Although King had written the sequel Doctor Sleep, it was based in the same continuity as the previous novel, which had a completely different ending than Kubrick’s film. Mike Flanagan proved himself as one of the true masters of horror with his adaptation of Doctor Sleep, which managed to honor both King’s mythology and the arthouse style that Kubrick had perfected. While it is one of the most well-cast horror films of the past decades, Emily Alyn Lindgave her breakout performance as the sinister villain known as “Snakebite Andi.”
