Batman: Jeffrey Dean Morgan Makes His Feelings Clear on Flashpoint Cancellation

Jeffrey Dean Morgan just revealed how close he came to wearing the cape and cowl in the DCEU. The Walking Dead star shared his candid reaction to learning about Zack Snyder’s scrapped Flashpoint Batman plans during a recent podcast appearance.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan recently discussed his scrapped Flashpoint Batman plans on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. The actor confirmed Zack Snyder intended him to play Thomas Wayne’s Batman in future DC films. Warner Bros. ultimately shelved those plans after shifting away from Snyder’s interconnected universe.

Morgan played Thomas Wayne alongside Lauren Cohan’s Martha Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He then recalled Snyder’s pitch during their initial conversations about the brief cameo role. “Well, it’s not it’s really nothing. And he’s like I got bigger plans,” Morgan said on the podcast.

Additionally, the actor remembered Snyder bringing up the Flashpoint concept directly. “I think at one point he like had looked over and just said Flashpoint. And I was like, ‘Oh, God damn it.’ Like I almost like don’t want to hear it, right?” Morgan explained.

However, Morgan traced the origins of this casting back even further to the Watchmen press tour. He recalled those initial Batman conversations with the director. “We talked I remember we started talking about Batman, him and I together on the press tour for Watchmen and he was like, ‘I would love to see you play Batman,'” Morgan said. He then responded with disbelief at the time. “Bro, don’t even tease. I’m going to have a heart attack right now,” the actor recalled telling Snyder.

Yet despite fan campaigns pushing for Morgan’s return, the project never materialized. Changes in studio leadership ultimately redirected DC’s cinematic plans away from Snyder’s vision. Meanwhile, the live-action Flash film instead featured Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as its Batman variants.

Still, Morgan expressed genuine disappointment about the missed opportunity. “I was so shocked that with Zach and Warner Brothers and that it didn’t work out,” he said. Furthermore, the actor praised Snyder’s deep knowledge of the DC universe throughout the conversation.
