Quentin Tarantino first made his mark on the film world in the 1990s, with Reservoir Dogs being a strong feature film debut, and then Pulp Fiction demonstrating that Reservoir Dogs wasn’t a fluke, and also was really just a taste of even greater things to come. The rest is history, and similarly, the run of movies Tarantino wrote without directing also felt like history, but then came the announcement of The Adventures of Cliff Booth, which is a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood that’s set to focus on Brad Pitt’s titular character. Tarantino directed Once Upon a Time in Hollywood while also being its sole writer, and he’s done the screenplay for The Adventures of Cliff Booth as well, but David Fincher is that film’s official director. And that’s strange on one hand, because as a 2026 release, it’ll mark the first Tarantino-written (but not directed) film in 30 years, but it’s not strange on the other hand, considering Fincher is someone who works very well with Brad Pitt (see Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).
