As complicated as the Alien franchise’s canon is, the best installment in the series since 1986’s Aliens just grew out of the existing lore and started over. The Alien movies are inconsistent, to say the least. Director Ridley Scott started the franchise strong with 1979’s Alien, a sci-fi horror masterpiece that introduced viewers to two icons of the genre, namely the Xenomorph and Sigourney Weaver’s resilient Final Girl Ellen Ripley.
