I often come across screenshots of TikToks about dark romance. They’re usually circulated for mocking purposes, and many present a strong man protecting a smaller woman. For the purposes of visualizing dark romances, they do the job they’re supposed to. The dark romance novels we’ve rounded up in the past delve into difficult topics and give readers space to indulge in these dark moments sans mocking. For seasoned dark romance fans and those looking for a new reading challenge, comics have a particularly interesting and unsettling way of visualizing dark romances.

Romance comics that deal with complex themes often delve into different genres and styles: gothic, horror, supernatural, sci-fi, and more. Richly imagined worlds make it more engaging to dive into the dark romance aspects as well. One thing I love about dark romance comics is the discomfort they cause. Like all literature that deals with tough topics, a dark romance comic is a preferable way to feel unsettled than in reality.

If you’re looking to dive into some dark romance comics, these titles serve a variety of genre lovers: from dystopian, to paranormal, to mafia boss, there’s something to draw you into the shadows.
