Gene Roddenberry came into the limelight as the creator of Star Trek, and for good reason. Prior to the iconic series, Roddenberry’s work was primarily as a writer of one-off episodes for shows like Dr. Kildare. In fact, Roddenberry has only one series in which he is credited as writer, producer, and creator before Star Trek: The Lieutenant. The long-forgotten series lasted only one season of 29 episodes, but in it, Roddenberry laid the foundation that would become the start of a five-year mission to explore strange new worlds.
