When an R-rated film bombs at the box office, or a comedy film does that, it doesn’t hurt. It’s true but the audience kind of brushes it as yeah that one had it coming. But when a thriller is bad, it sucks, and it hurts. The most painful ’90s thrillers are the ones that clearly wanted to be adult, dangerous, stylish, and talked about. They had lawyers, jurors, temp workers, affairs, secret tapes, corporate offices, corrupt clients, murder plots, erotic obsession, and enough suspicious glances to fill a whole decade of late-night cable.
