The 1980s was a golden age for sci-fi, with many of the movies made in that period featuring young people having bizarre adventures to a soundtrack that has stood the test of time. The distinctive feel of 1980s sci-fi movies has in turn become a significant source of both nostalgia and inspiration for modern shows, like Stranger Things. Stranger Things is a homage to the 1980s, and while the show references many of the best 1980s sci-fi movies, the iconic Back to the Future was such an influence that it is tributed several times.
