33 Years Later, This 'Jurassic Park' Scene Still Does Sci-Fi Thriller Filmmaking Better Than Most

The Tyrannosaurus rex does not arrive in Jurassic Park as a surprise. The film spends an extended stretch of time making sure audiences know exactly where it is, what contains it, and what will happen if that containment fails. The paddock is introduced with intention, the electric fence is emphasized, and the goat is placed in full view. By the time the tour vehicles stall out in the rain, the sequence has already mapped out its own disaster in plain sight. And yet, when the breakout finally happens, it still feels sudden.
