21 years after the Serenity movie, the Fireflyfranchise will return once again this September. Famously canceled before it could even air its first full season — just 11 of the originally produced 14 episodes were broadcast on Fox in 2002 — controversial creator Joss Whedon's futuristic space Western became an enduring cult hit. DVD sales boosted Firefly's popularity enough for Universal Pictures to greenlight a follow-up movie sequel, 2005's Serenity, which reunited the show's ensemble cast but failed to make a splash at the box office.
