The year 2027 will see one of the most decorated actor-directors of his generation, Mel Gibson, return to the kind of filmmaking that he’s best known for. His long-awaited follow-up to The Passion of the Christ, a two-part sequel titled The Resurrection of the Christ, will debut its first installment in May. Gibson emerged as a filmmaker with the historical epic Braveheart, and went on to direct epics such as Apocalypto and The Passion of the Christ. However, personal issues continued to plague his life, and they had an impact on his career in the 2010s. After effectively being canceled, Gibson made a controversial comeback to mainstream moviemaking a decade ago with a World War II movie that was widely celebrated by the industry.
