A thriller earns your trust very differently from a drama or a horror movie. A drama can recover from a slow patch if the emotions are real enough. A horror movie can survive a weak middle if it has one or two sequences brutal enough to leave a scar. A thriller does not get that luxury. The line has to stay tight. The movie has to keep feeding you pressure, suspicion, urgency, dread, or fascination without letting the machinery show.
