Few genres in anime are more contentious than the harem genre, and for good reason; not only are harem anime often rife with distracting levels of fanservice, but since they’re typically little more than wish fulfillment, the world and the characters inhabiting them, especially the girls, will often have little to no depth to them, making nearly every episode little more than a chore to sit through.
